Contracts will be sent to students individually when they make an LAS team

Congratulations for being a member of a team sport! LAS is privileged to have you playing for our teams and representing this school. Likewise, it is a privilege for you to play for your team and represent LAS in upcoming athletic events. LAS competes in two leagues, ADISR and SGIS, and most teams will have events in both leagues.

The LAS Goats (the mighty Chamois!) have built up a reputation over the years of having competitive, disciplined teams that positively represent our school. I ask that you all continue to keep the bar raised high and display good sportsmanship, fair-play and appropriate conduct in both victory and defeat. In this regard, we should be celebrating our victories enthusiastically but not obnoxiously, and accept our losses with dignified grace.

Before, during and after your games, you are representing your school, team and coach, your family and your nation. Please conduct yourselves in a way that gives other schools the option to say positive things about our teams. Some simple acts of good sportsmanship:

~ Help your coach and fellow teammates

~ Help up a fallen or injured player

~ Do not argue with the referee

~ Shake hands with the opposing players, the other coach and referee after each game

~ Always give a cheer for the other team after each game

The contract below should be used as an incentive for students to keep your grades and behavior in good standing. This contract is to be READ and INITIALED BY EACH STUDENT playing for a team sport. A student playing for a team sport may NOT participate in team games (scrimmages, league or tournament) for the duration of time that he or she does not meet the following minimum academic standards. These standards are:

~ Students must have a MINIMUM OF A 2.5 GPA ***

~ Any student with TWO Fs - regardless of your GPA - CANNOT PLAY in organized games

~ Students must be in GOOD BEHAVIORAL STANDING (conduct grades and discipline record may be reviewed by the Athletic Director and Dean of Students to determine game eligibility) ***A student who has one F, or a GPA below a 2.5 but above a 2.0, must obtain a PROGRESS REPORT form (available on the Goats website) to be taken to the teachers of the struggling classes. This form must be filled out and returned to the Athletic Director or Coach before the match. GPA lists are published on Mondays and will be used to determine weekly grades. The Progress Report will be reviewed by the Coach or Athletic Director before the match.

Students displaying effort in the struggling classes (as deemed by the teacher) will be allowed to participate in matches. This process will be repeated for each match until the student is no longer failing. Any student with an on-campus suspension may not participate in any games for the duration of the suspension. Just like in activities, players are graded on their weekly efforts, punctuality and participation. These grade will have an effect of your GPA. Students who miss a practice with an unexcused absence will receive an F for their activities grade and will need to go to a Friday make-up run to return to a passing grade.

LAS SPORTS TEAM COMMITMENT

~ I understand that I am a member of a sports team and represent LAS, both in Leysin and at other locations.

~ I understand that, as a member of the team, I am expected to attend all practices, meets and tournaments that are scheduled for the team if I am selected by the coach.

~ I will review my team's schedule (on the Goats website and the Athletics gmail calendar) and know the dates of my upcoming matches and tournaments.

~ If I cannot attend a practice or an event (for reasons other than sudden injury or illness), I will let my coach know in advance.

~ Departure from the team, either from quitting or being asked to leave for unsportsmanlike behavior (missing practices or events without notice, fighting, bad behavior) may result in an F for my activities grade.
